New Gun and Ammunition Cabinet for Mt. Norris
A new Gun and Ammunition Cabinet was recently built, thanks to the generosity of Exit 18 Equipment, with a major contribution by Roger Parent for assembling and welding. Assisted by Tom Cardinal, Sam Macy and Brett Macy. The gun cabinet was installed at the Rifle Range during the Spring 20018 Beaver workday.

August 25, 2014. The Association's Board of Directors met Monday evening, August 18th. Minutes are in the Corporate Documents pull down menu. The Board reviewed the status of work projects begun in the spring and discussed potential projects for the fall. Chief among the fall projects will be organizing the existing tent platforms, pressure washing those that are the proper size for the tents now in use at Mt. Norris and building larger outriggers to improve the appearance and functionality of the tents. Once platforms are washed and have dried sufficiently they will be stained. The stain will serve two purposes; it will help preserve the platforms and it will color code what model tent belongs on which platform. Some alumni members put together a prototype set of outriggers. The prototype includes tie-off rails for a waterproof tarp or fly. BSA Engineering Service Design Standard 86 (circa 1987) stresses the advantages of the fly are it extends the life of the tent and cools the interior of the tent. One might argue that it also keeps the rain out.

MAPPING
John Whitman is helping the Alumni Association map the facilities and infrastructure of MNSR. He spent a long day doing the field work on May 8th. At times his Trimble GeoXT was locked onto ten GPS satellites at once and was predicting sub-meter accuracy. "The prediction tends to be a little optimistic" according to John, "but the results should be within 1-2 meters."

ALUMNI TO PLAY A ROLE IN MT. NORRIS FACILITIES INVENTORY and ASSESSMENT
The Board of Directors met March 5, 2014. A major initiative that came out of the meeting is an Updated Facilities Inventory and Assessment Project led by alumni member Glenn Macy. To date, with the assistance of Ranger Gordie, Glenn has compiled a draft list of Mt. Norris facilities and infrastructure. Also, a facilities inventory worksheet to use as a checklist for recording pertinent information on each facility. If you would like to help with this project or have any information to contribute please contact [email protected].
